DULF Legal Aid Fund Update – 08/01/26

We were told we could have avoided prosecution by applying for an exemption.

We explained that we had.

“Not that exemption,” the clerk replied. “The proper exemption.”

We asked where it could be found.

“It is available to everyone.”

“Who has received it?”

The clerk lowered his voice.

“That is another question.”

Each office directed us to another office. Each document required another document. Every answer proved only that another answer was required.

Outside, people continued to die from poisoned drugs.

Inside, everyone agreed this was regrettable.

The substances we had tested, labelled, and distributed were called trafficking.

The substances sold anonymously in the street were called the market.

The distinction was considered essential.

The hearing ended without an ending. The judge reserved judgment, and the waiting became part of the sentence.

Meanwhile, lawyers still had to be paid.
