DULF Legal Aid Fund Update – 07/15/26
The Drug User Liberation Front did not establish the Compassion Club and Fulfillment Centre as a plea for mercy. It was constructed as an operational breach in the architecture of prohibition: a functioning demonstration that the chemistry of survival can be organized outside the necropolitical economy of the illicit market. Against a regime that manufactures scarcity, contamination, and death, we built another circuit – one in which substances were tested, accurately identified, and distributed according to principles of collective care rather than criminal speculation.
The experiment exposed an inconvenient fact. When people are no longer compelled to navigate a poisoned market, they rely upon it less. Overdoses decline. Bodies recover. Minds stabilize. Trust returns. Every package, every laboratory result, every act of distribution transformed an abstract argument into material evidence that another system is not merely imaginable, but operational.
The overdose crisis is not a natural disaster. It is the predictable consequence of governance that preserves prohibition even after its casualties have become statistically ordinary. Death has been normalized into administrative routine while the infrastructure capable of interrupting it remains criminalized. The Compassion Club demonstrated that regulation, transparency, and community are not utopian aspirations – they are practical technologies of survival.
From July 13 through July 21, we return to court. The proceedings concern more than the fate of a handful of defendants. They test whether the state may continue to defend a legal order whose outcomes are measured in preventable deaths while prosecuting those who constructed a working alternative. The question before the court is whether law exists to preserve its own machinery, or whether it can still recognize life when life refuses to conform to the logic of prohibition.
