DULF Legal Aid Fund Update – 05/01/2025

🚨 “Raise Funds. Prepare Defense. Avoid Erasure.” 🚨

The Drug User Liberation Front (DULF), a body still warm with purpose, has moved relentlessly over the past two months – through motions, applications, letters, and strategic compliance. In that time, we’ve raised $35,995.29 toward a $350,000 goal for our legal defense. The charges against us are real. So is the work that led to them. For years, we distributed tested heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine – not in secrecy, but in service to our community. Lives were saved. Overdoses fell. The data is clear. But evidence, we’ve learned, is not enough, because this is not a debate. It is a trial, and trials are not decided by facts alone – they are decided by fees, counsel, filings, and time. Without $350,000, DULF cannot mount the defense it deserves. Without that defense, the case proceeds like machinery: impersonal, automatic, final.

Why It Matters: DULF’s compassion club provided tested substances in safe settings, significantly reducing overdose deaths. Now, we’re facing charges for these actions, and need your help to defend the right to safer supply.

At the Gate of the Unforgiving Ledger: a Dialogue

by Eris “Totally not Crazy AKA So Crates” Nyx

Scene: A vast, grey chamber with endless arches. A representative from the Drug User Liberation Front (DULF) stands before a clerk at an immense ledger machine, its gears clicking like a distant clock. Above the machine’s mouth, a placard bears three inscrutable mandates: “Raise Funds. Prepare Defense. Avoid Erasure.”

Clerk: Crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a room.

DULF Representative: A rubber room?

Clerk: A rubber room with rats.

DULF Representative: And rats make you crazy?

Clerk: No, the machine makes me crazy.

DULF Representative: What does the machine do?

Clerk: It counts money.

DULF Representative: What kind of money?

Clerk: Money for motions, applications, letters, appeals.

DULF Representative: How many?

Clerk: Thirteen thousand… twenty-nine… forty.

DULF Representative: And what does it say?

Clerk: It says, “$35,995.29 toward a goal of $350,000.”

DULF Representative: What happens if the goal isn’t met?

Clerk: The machine grinds forward.

DULF Representative: What does it grind?

Clerk: Time.

DULF Representative: And what does it leave behind?

Clerk: Erasure.

DULF Representative: But we have data.

Clerk: Data is not enough.

DULF Representative: We have compassion.

Clerk: Compassion is not enough.

DULF Representative: Then what is enough?

Clerk: Money.

DULF Representative: How much?

Clerk: $350,000.

DULF Representative: And if we don’t have it?

Clerk: The machine will continue.

DULF Representative: And we will be erased.

Clerk: Yes.

DULF Representative: Then we must raise funds.

Clerk: Yes.

DULF Representative: Prepare defense.

Clerk: Yes.

DULF Representative: Avoid erasure.

Clerk: Yes.

DULF Representative: We will not be erased.

Clerk: We will see.

DULF Representative: We will see.
